A rural Donegal community is expected to come to a standstill today for the funeral of popular local farmer John Roulston.
Mr Roulston, who was in his 60s, was killed on Monday afternoon last following an accident at his family’s farm at Moneymore, Newtowncunningham.
The father-of-three was a well-known and respected dairy farmer who worked alongside his brothers Keith and George and extended family.
The Roulston family farm is regarded as one of the best farms in the country and supplied milk to companies both in Ireland and abroad.
The late Mr Roulston is survived by his wife Susan, who is a highly-regarded local vet, and their daughters Louise, Helen and Emily.
Mr Roulston’s funeral cortege will leave his home today at 12.30pm for 1pm Service of Thanksgiving in Newtowncunningham Presbyterian Church followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.
Both the local and farming community are still in shock at Mr Roulston’s sudden passing.
Mr Roulston’s death notice reads, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death, as the result of a farm accident of Robert John Roulston, Moneymore Little, Newtowncunningham.
“Predeceased by his father Alan. Cherished son of Florence.
“Much loved husband of Susan, and father of Louise (Daniel), Helen and Emily. Devoted grandfather of baby William. Both the Health and Safety Authority and the Garda continue to investigate Mr Roulston’s death.
