A search is being carried out in County Louth as part of the investigation into the disappearance and murder of schoolboy Kyran Durnin.
Gardaí confirmed a technical and forensic examination is underway at a house in Drogheda.
They said the purpose of the search is “to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyran’s current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.”
Gardaí also said they are aware of “ongoing extensive commentary” on the investigation, “including speculation, rumours, and theories on what may have happened to Kyran, most of which is inaccurate and misinformed”.
They said that “such ill-informed public commentary is not only disruptive” to the investigation but also “adds to the trauma experienced by victims families”.
The last confirmed sighting of Kyran was in May 2022.
In August last year, a missing person’s report was filed at Drogheda Garda Station in relation to Kyran and gardaí were told he was last seen in the town two days beforehand.
However, during the course of this inquiry, information came to light that led detectives to suspect that Kyran had been missing for longer than two days.
In October, the missing person’s case was upgraded to murder.
Kyran would be eight-years-old now.
In October, gardaí launched a murder investigation after they failed to uncover any evidence that led them to believe Kyran was still alive.
To date, two people, a man and a woman, have been arrested on suspicion of Kyran’s murder. Both were released without charge.
Meanwhile, three houses have previously been searched, one in Dundalk and two in Drogheda.
The man, who was arrested in December as part of the investigation and questioned by gardaí before being released without charge, was later found dead at his house in Drogheda.
