Donegal driver caught speeding in early hours of National Slowdown Day

A driver in Donegal has been caught speeding during the first few hours of National Slowdown Day.

The motorist was clocked doing 117km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N15 at Coolcholly, Ballyshannon.

An Garda Síochána, supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, is conducting a national speed enforcement operation which runs for 24 hours from 00:00 to 23:59 today.

So far this National #Slowdown Day, members of An Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras, have detected a total of 106 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

The highest speed, 136km/h in a 100km/h Zone, was recorded on the N3 at Lavey, Stradone, Co. Cavan

Gardaí conduct a number of high profile National #SlowDown Days every year. The aim of National #SlowDown Days is to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding, encourage a national conversation on the impact of speeding, to increase overall compliance with speed limits in place nationwide and to deter and detect those that are intent on driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.
