Donegal County Council holds the highest number of applications for the vacant property refurbishment grant.
€4.9M in funding has been paid out in the county, which recorded 1042 applications and 715 grant approvals since the scheme began in 2022.
Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh said the high number of applications is “testament to the work of the team at Donegal County Council, who have done so much to raise awareness of the grants available by organising information evenings right across the county and providing advice on the application process.”
“By repurposing the buildings that we already have, we are boosting available accommodation whilst also rejuvenating the towns and urban centres we know and love,” Cllr Kavanagh said.
“In Donegal over €2 million in grants have been drawn down between 1st October to 31st December 2024, which is a considerable increase since the scheme was established and I am expecting there to be a continued increase in the number of grants paid in 2025. Donegal has the highest number of applications in the country with 1042 applicants of these 715 have now been approved there were only 27 rejections with the remainder awaiting approval.
Cllr Kavanagh added: “Fine Gael are committed to helping more people in Donegal own their own home and increasing supply is key to achieving that. This grant helps bring buildings back into use and breathes new life into our communities and has the potential to transform towns and villages across the county.”
