A total of 27 projects across Donegal will share approximately €2 million as part of the Community Recognition Fund.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher and Junior Minister Charlie McConalogue have welcomed the allocation of the funding.
The various projects have received funding to support community infrastructure and facilities that not only enhance local services but also recognise the significant role Donegal communities have played in welcoming new arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.
Established in 2023 and launched last year, the Community Recognition Fund was created to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of communities across the county.
It is designed to support the development and enhancement of community facilities in areas hosting new arrivals, while also benefiting all local residents.
Deputy Gallagher praised the high quality of the applications received from local organisations and expressed his gratitude to Donegal County Council for effectively administering the fund on behalf of the parent department.
Welcoming the funding of €1.98 million announced for Donegal by the Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, Donegal junior minister, Charlie McConalogue said: “This scheme is providing large capital grants ranging from €50,000 to €200,000 for projects in Donegal.”
“This funding has the potential to have a positive impact on communities right across Donegal. Investing in projects in our towns and villages will greatly benefit our local communities and it’s important that facilities continue to be improved and upgraded.
“The Donegal projects set to receive funding have been successful under the second tranche. The third and final tranche is currently open for applications from local authorities until Friday, February 28th,” the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy added.
