Shoppers flocked to New Look’s Letterkenny store today hoping to find a bargain before the store’s closure.
A massive queue formed in the Letterkenny Retail Park ahead of the store’s clearance sale at 12noon.
There was shock earlier this week as New Look, which employs 347 people nationwide, announced the closure of all 26 of its Irish stores.
All staff are now facing redundancy.
A message from the Letterkenny team on Friday said: “As I’m sure most of you have already heard the devastating news that we are all closing down by now.”
Customers were told that the Letterkenny store will reopen today (Sunday) with a clearance sale offering at least 50% off all items.
“On a personal level all our staff would like to thank you all for your custom over the past 17 years. The Letterkenny team x”
New Look said: “The decision to seek the appointment of liquidators was not taken lightly. New Look’s Irish operation has struggled for some years, impacted by a range of factors including supply-chain and in-market costs, and squeezed consumer spending.”
“We will do everything we can to support the workers,” said Taoiseach Micheal Martin earlier this week.
