All roads lead to Century Cinemas on Thursday 27th February with the premiere of the locally produced football documentary ‘Just another Year’.
The documentary is based on the local schoolboy football club Illistrin FC and follows a number of their underage boys’ and girls’ teams over the course of the 2024 season through a series of player interviews, coach interviews and game footage.
The production also examines the history of the Illistrin FC club and the Letterkenny and District Schoolboy league with a must-see interview with well known priest Fr Kieran McAteer, now stationed in Stranorlar, who pulled together the first Illistrin team back in 1976.
There is also a number of interviews with current and former club committee members who have played major roles in developing and growing the club for almost 50 years. Former Illistrin underage players Shane Blaney (Motherwell) and Connor O’Reilly (Ipswich Town), are also interviewed in the documentary.
Produced by Club PRO Karl Sweeney, this documentary is the first of its kind in Donegal and a must see for underage football enthusiasts.
Karl said, “I wanted to shine a light of the level of volunteerism that is taking place, week in week out, at a small underage football club.
“When we were researching the history of the club, I was blown away with the time and effort put in by local parents, coaches and committee members to keep this very successful club going over the last 50 years.”
Illistrin FC – Just Another Year will premiere for one night only at Century Cinema on Thursday 27th February, starting at 8:30pm.
A small number of tickets are still available and can be bought online by visiting Illistrin FC Facebook page or at the main reception at Swilly Group office at Business Park Road, Letterkenny.
