Members of the Letterkenny & District Pipe Band are set for the journey of a lifetime as they get ready to take part in the city’s 2025 St Patrick’s Day celebrations!
The group will be in New York from March 14th until March 19th, with the 65 members and followers representing Letterkenny and County Donegal on an international stage.
Their itinerary features performances at the Throggs Neck Parade in the Bronx, on Sunday, March 16th, followed by the iconic Fifth Avenue Parade on Monday, the World’s oldest and largest parade on March 17th, St Patrick’s Day. These events are renowned for their vibrant displays of Irish heritage, and the band’s participation underscores their dedication to their craft and culture.
This transatlantic endeavor has been made possible through a year-long fundraising campaign.
The band engaged in various activities, including bonus ball draws, busking sessions, raffles, local events, and more, and they thanked the unwavering support they recieved from local businesses and the local community in covering their expenses for the trip.
The band say they are very excited for this upcoming adventure, with the trip not only offering a platform to showcase their musical talents but also serving as a cultural exchange.
Heading to New York will allow members to experience the global Irish diaspora’s spirit firsthand.
As the departure date approaches, the Letterkenny & District Pipe Band continues to rehearse, aiming to make their mark on one of the world’s most celebrated St. Patrick’s Day parades.
