Several Rosses AC athletes were in Lifford last Sunday where the Strabane Triathlon Club held a high caliber 5k.
After his brilliant 14:38 in the Armagh road race on Thursday, Danny Mooney of LAC went under 15 mins again to clock 14:59. First of the Rosses AC men home was Charlie Postie getting his season off to a fine start with a strong time of 16:25 for 2nd M40. Paul McKelvey was the second of the Rosses men back and a good winter of training hard and it showed with a great season opener of 17:40. Declan Gallagher who was up and down the Donegal peaks the previous day somehow mustered up a fine effort to run a nice time of 17:53. Rosses Bernie Boyle was a last minute decision and put in a strong performance to run a brilliant 19:07 to take 3rd.

On Saturday the 2025 track and field season kicked off with the Donegal Athletic Board putting on a brilliant event in the form of the Winter Track and Field Classic hosted by Letterkenny AC. It was a brilliant day with events offered to all ages from u9 to u19. It was to prove a very successful day for the club with many getting a first taste of track and field and there were so many strong performances and medals. This is down to all the commitment put in by all the athletes over the winter months. A huge thanks to all the coaches who give up so much of their time and also all those who volunteered to officiate as without these people there would be no events. A great start to the year – and loads of pictures on Facebook – well done all.

The previous weekend Aaliyah Gallagher was the sole athlete to make the journey to Belfast to take part in the Jumps and Throws event organised by Athletics NI at the Jordanstown campus. First up in the High Jump Aaliyah jumped 1.40m getting second place and a nice start to the season. Next was shot and again Aaliyah got – 2nd place with a throw of 9.97m. A solid start and shows the winter training and efforts she has put in over the past few months. Entries for the Ulster indoors are now being taken which will take place in Athlone on March 1st and 2nd so get your names and events to Rosaleen McGarvey.
