A new report has found that nine percent of all residential properties in Donegal are vacant.
The GeoDirectory report for 2024 Q4 found that Donegal had the fourth-highest rate of residential vacancy in the country.
Donegal’s vacancy rate was also far higher than the national average, which stands at 3.8 percent.
County Donegal also recorded the lowest occupancy rate for residential properties in the entirety of Ireland.
That’s because Donegal also has the highest percentage of holiday homes in the state, with a whopping 10.7 percent of all residential propeties in the county being designated as such.
This means that a total of 19.7 percent of all homes in the county are not occupied year-round.
Meanwhile Donegal has recorded the fourth-lowest average house price in the state according to GeoDirectory’s study.
The average price of a home in Donegal is now €208,505 – almost half the national average which now stands at €399,763.
