Geraldine Mullan has began her gargantuan climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Moville woman is taking on the challenge along with her good friend Katie Kilpatrick, to raise money for Children in Crossfire.
For Geraldine the challenge also has a personal note to it, as she lost her beloved mother Margaret in the last few weeks and has dedicated her Kilimanjaro journey in part to her, as well as her late husband and children.
The Galway native tragically lost her husband, John and and two children, Tomás and Amelia, in a tragic accident car in 2020.
She has dedicated herself in recent years to helping others in memory of her loved ones by charity fundraising and the Mullan Hope Centre – through which work she had the opportunity of getting to know Children in Crossfire founder Richard Moore.
That connection is what inspired Geraldine to fundraise for the charity during her amazing climb – having raised almost £25,000 as day 1 of the climb begins.
Despite a delay of a day due to Geraldine and her group having their luggage go missing on their connecting flight to Kilimanjaro – after the late night arrival of all their gear they have set off on their week-long journey to the highest summit in Africa.
