One of Donegal’s most successful businessmen has bought one of Ireland’s most famous pubs.
Paddy Doherty is reported to have splashed out €3.5 million for the Queen’s Pub in upmarket Dalkey in Dublin.
The Queens is one of the oldest pubs in Ireland with a history dating back to 1745.
Some of its client include many of its local superstar neighbours including U2 singer Bono.
Mr Doherty is the founder and chief executive of the Electro Automation Group which provides tolling services at Dublin Port Tunnel and is best known for its Easytrip road-tolling services.
Now Mr Doherty and his team are snapping up a number of high-end bars, many of which are in affluent parts of Dublin.
He already owns Ashton’s in Clonskeagh in Dublin along with a number of other investors.
And Mr Doherty has wasted no time in making the Queen’s Pub and even more profitable venue.
He has just secured planning permission to build a 30 bedroom guesthouse at the back of the famous watering hole.
