Former Donegal-based Minister Joe McHugh is launching his new book detailing his journey learning the Irish language today.
The bilingual book details his journey in learning the Irish language, which became especially unique when in 2014 he was appointed as the Minister for the Gaeltacht – despite having a limited grasp of his cúpla focal.
Now with his new book, Beidh Tú Alright, Joe is aiming to tell his story of learning the language whilst under the highest of political pressure, and also offer his advice to anyone wishing to start their own Irish language journey.
Within he shares a candid account of the challenges he faced in mastering the Irish language as an adult, with a behind the scenes look at the struggles he faced, as well as the deep connection he forged with his native language also.
Joe also details his rediscovery of the cultural significance the language bears on many place names, the inspiration he found from the landscapes of locations such as Glean Cholm Cille and Bear Island, and how our language can connect us further to our heritage and identity.
The official launch of his book is taking place at the Bookmark store in Letterkenny Shopping Centre this afternoon from 12:30pm to 2pm.
