Members of the south Donegal community of Creevy are taking on a 100km cycle to raise money for their new sports hub.
Last year plans were approved for the development of a local community recreational and sports hub on the grounds of Creevy National School.
However, to make those dreams a reality the community needs to raise €100,000 so it can provide match funding and the next phase of the project can continue.
Plans for the development include an astro turf pitch with fencing and floodlighting, a multipurpose games area (for basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, pickleball and more), a walking/running trail, community garden, changing facilities and extra off-road parking.
Creevy Community Hub CLG has already received €178,000 of grant funding from the government, but require the additional €100,000 to get the project over the line.
The community has already raised over €36,000, with over 70 members signed up to raise funds by completing a 100km cycle.
Some members of the group have already taken to their bikes in preparation, with the big cycle taking place on the 29th of March.
The “Four Counties 100km Cycle Challenge” will see the participants set off from Creevy, and cycle through parts of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim and Fermanagh.
