A grateful hill walker who was stretchered off Errigal last October has raised more than €2,200 for the volunteer Donegal Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT).
Eileen suffered lower leg and head injuries while descending Donegal’s highest peak with her walking group.
The Rescue 118 helicopter attended the scene, but was unable to lift the casualty due to deteriorating weather conditions. As a result, DMRT secured the casualty and stretchered her to safety.
“We were recently contacted by those who were accompanying the casualty on their hike, informing us that, between the walking group and Eileen herself, they had raised a substantial amount for the team,” a DMRT spokesperson said.
“We are overwhelmed with this donation and can only express our sincerest thanks for all this effort and generosity. We are delighted that Eileen is well on the road to recovery and it was a privilege to meet up with her, as well as Brigid and Seamus once again, healthy and safe.”
DMRT wishes Eileen all the best for the remainder of her recovery, and thanked everyone involved for their generous contribution. Well done all!
