The future of Donegal’s much-loved ‘Tin Shop’ looks secure thanks to a grant allocation of €28,000.
Plans to demolish the iconic structure near Donegal town were shelved last summer following a change of heart by the owner.
The former shop, which was erected around 1915, and closed in 2006, is listed as being of regional importance by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH).
Today, the corrugated iron structure was confirmed as one of nine Donegal projects to share more than €130,000 under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS).
Minister of State for Heritage, Christopher O’Sullivan, granted the money to Donegal County Council in collaboration with property owners to conserve and enhance historic buildings and streetscapes.
Almost €20,000 is also going to both Mary MacBrides House’ on Gola Island and another at Roisin, Dunfanaghy, to fix the roofs.
