A Letterkenny man has pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and making threats to kill.
A female co-accused has also tendered guilty pleas to charges relating to the same incident.
Matthew Lafferty and Amanda Coleman appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court in connection with an incident at Robinsons Hall, Port Road Apartments, Letterkenny, on June 1, 2022.
A 32-year-old with an address at Robinsons Hall Apartments, Port Road Letterkenny, and Coleman, aged 39 and now with an address at Kilmacrennan Road, Letterkenny, were formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer.
Lafferty pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated burglary. Lafferty entered the premises in question as a trespasser and committed an arrestable offence, namely a threat to kill or cause serious harm.
The accused man pleaded guilty to a charge of, in the court of a dispute, producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a hammer.
He also pleaded guilty to two charges of making threats to kill or cause serious harm to two people on the same day at the same location.
Lafferty’s barrister, Mr Peter Nolan BL, instructed by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client has long-term psychiatric history and asked that a legal aid certificate be extended to cover a report.
Mr Nolan said a probation and welfare report “would not be of any assistance”.
The court heard that Lafferty is in custody at Castlerea Prison on other charges.
While Lafferty had been on bail on these charges, an order was made by Judge Aylmer to revoke that bail and the accused was remanded in custody.
Coleman pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary at Robinsons Hall, Port Road Apartments, Letterkenny, on the same date.
She also pleaded guilty to making threats to kill or cause serious harm to a person on the same date at the same location.
Mr Timothy Morrow BL, instructed by solicitor Mr Gallagher, asked that a probation and welfare report be prepared on behalf of his client and Judge Aylmer agreed, noting that the report is to include suitability for community service.
Judge Aylmer adjourned the matter to the July sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
