A group of Loreto Community School Milford students are seeking to drive change by campaigning for free transport for under 18s.
Students developed the “Transport for Teens” campaign as part of the Young Social Innovators national competition, which encourages young people to make a difference to the world around them.
The issue of public transport was a hot topic for the students as they feel the prices of local buses are putting financial pressure on parents and ultimately stopping teens from using the bus, which is more climate-friendly.
The group will be going to Sligo to present this project to the YSI judges early next month.
They have recently met with Councillor Declan Meehan about their concerns, and hope to bring more attention to this issue moving forward.
