A boy who lost a sliotar while on a family holiday in Donegal has been reunited with it – after it was found hundreds of miles away.
Young 8-year-old Fionn from Carryduff, which is located just outside of Belfast, had been in Donegal last summer when his beloved sliotar emblazened with the Carryduff GAC logo was lost.
He had been hitting the sliotar against a rock, when it bounced over it and into a bush where it couldn’t be found.
Imagine his shock then when, according to the BBC, the same sliotar washed up on a beach in Loch Eynort – in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
Local man Donald Mac Isaac noticed the sliotar while walking on the beach, and instantly recognised the gaelic connection from the “Ceathru Aodha Dhuaibh” logo on the ball.
Despite not speaking Irish, Donald is a fluent Scottish Gaelic speaker – who was able to instantly connect the ball to hurling and identify which club it belonged to.
After getting in touch with Carryduff GAC, the ball was found to be Fionn’s – with potential plans for the young man’s family to travel and meet Donald to retrieve it themselves and teach him a few things about the sport as well.
