Gardai have been put on alert that a suspect in the death of a Strabane man in a brutal assault in recent days could be hiding out in Donegal.
The victim of the assault which occurred in Strabane in the early hours of Monday morning died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast late last Friday night.
Stephen Holmes died from the severe injuries he sustained after being left for dead following the brutal assault.
The 31-year-old victim was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital after paramedics attended the scene in the Beechmount Village area of the town following a 999 call after 3am on Monday.
He was later transferred to the Critical Care Intensive Care Unit at the R.V.H. as medics battled to save his life.
The father of two died late last night despite the best efforts of the medical team.
Dylan McCrossan, 31, of Beechmount Village, Strabane, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as having cocaine and the Class C drug Pregabalin on the same date.
He made no reply when the charges were put to him at Strabane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and he was remanded in custody until 6 March.
Police investigating the assault believe a second man was involved in the assault on Mr Holmes.
It is believed that he fled across the border and is in hiding in Donegal.
