Heartbreak and deep sadness have struck the Gortahork and Falcarragh region following the passing of 13-year-old Enya McMurrough from Ardsbeg.
Enya, a first-year student at Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola, passed away on Saturday at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Beloved daughter of Fionnuala and Shaun, and dear sister of Séan, Enya was a kind and dedicated student with countless talents and achievements.
She is remembered as a gentle and caring young girl who brought joy to the halls of her school.
A touching tribute from PCC Falcarragh said that even in her short time there, Enya had made a lasting impact on the school community.
“Enya was a team player. Her attention to her school work was mature beyond her years. Her academic abilities reflected that of her teamwork in her many sporting and other pursuits,” they said.
Enya’s extra-curricular accomplishments were plentiful too, they said.
“She always gave her best. Enya has graced many stages with her dancing skills and her musical accomplishments. She gave so much to her community for one so young. Her talents were varied and many.”
The school’s tribute concluded with a heartfelt message: “Enya will forever be etched in our memories, and as she leaves our stage, we have no doubt she is on the heavenly stage with the other angels sharing those talents. Enya will live in our hearts and memories forever.”
Enya was an underage player with Clg Chloich Cheann Fhaola, who have extended their deepest condolences to Shaun, Fionnuala and Séan, her grandparents, Hughie and Kathleen and all the McMurrough and McCready families at this time.
As a mark of respect, all club activity at Clg Chloich Cheann Fhaola and all underage club activity at Glenea Utd FC has been suspended until further notice.
Enya’s Funeral Mass will be held at 1pm in Teach Pobail Chríost Rí, Gort A’Choirce, on Thursday 6th February, with interment afterwards in the adjacent cemetery.
The family home will be strictly private to family only, but all are welcome to attend the funeral.
