Donegal’s young barbershop stars, the Platinum Dolls, made their mark on the world stage last night in the US.
The Loreto Letterkenny students put in a stellar performance at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Midwinter Junior Quartet Contest in San Antonio, Texas.
The talented girls – Jiya Jino, Grace Gavigan, Siún Farrelly and Orla Fabisiak – are also members of Donegal’s exceptional Danu Young Women’s Choir.
Representing Ireland with pride, the quartet finished in a remarkable sixth place and earned an ‘Outstanding’rating, cementing their status among the best young barbershop quartets in the world.
Their journey to the international competition was made possible after they qualified in October by winning the Youth Quartet Contest and securing the title of Best Novice Quartet at the prestigious competition in Killarney.
Performing second in the contest, the Platinum Dolls captivated the audience with their rendition of Cole Porter’s classic ‘After You, Who?’
Their refined harmonies and polished stage presence impressed both judges and spectators alike, reinforcing their reputation as rising stars in the barbershop scene.
The quartet expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their choir director, Doug Carnes, for his unwavering support and guidance. They also extended a huge thank you to the wider Donegal community, whose generosity through a successful GoFundMe campaign made their trip to Texas possible.
Their outstanding achievement on the international stage is not only a testament to their dedication and talent but also highlights the strength of barbershop singing in Ireland. The future looks bright for the Platinum Dolls, and their success in San Antonio is sure to inspire other young singers to follow in their footsteps.
