A major search operation is underway in Washington DC after a military helicopter collided with a passenger jet with 64 onboard.
Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac river.
The American Airlines passenger flight had flown from Wichita, Kansas, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members when it collided with a Black Hawk helicopter. The military helicopter is believed to be carrying three soldiers on a training flight.
Hundreds of responders are searching the Potomac river in sub-zero temperatures which are making conditions exceptionally challenging.
A number of fatalities have been confirmed at the scene and there are no reports of survivors being saved from the water as of yet.
President Donald Trump has said the crash was a “bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented.”
“NOT GOOD!!!,” the president posted on his Truth Social platform.
