The Letterkenny Pantomime Society’s production of the Wizard of Oz is coming back to the stage after Storm Éowyn tried to steal the show!
Last Friday’s storm caused damage to fire vents in the roof of An Grianán Theatre, meaning the last three of nine pantos had to be cancelled at the last minute due to safety concerns.
But after rapid repairs, rescheduled shows have been announced for Tuesday 4th February until Thursday 6th February starting at 7.30pm.
Letterkenny Pantomime Society are delighted for host clubs Bonagee Utd (Thur) and Letterkenny Rovers (Wed) that they are not missing out on their host nights to raise funds.
There was jubilation among the cast when they heard the good news, that they were able to return to finish their run after months of work. Daithí Doherty, member of cast & committee admitted that “the weekend was a rollercoaster of emotions but we are relieved everyone is safe, that An Grianan is fixed and now, the show must go on!’
Donna Ponsonby, who co-ordinated the Children’s Scene commented, “Team Oz were the second for the kids scene and only got to do one show. There were lots of little tears when the shows cancelled! We were heartbroken for them to be missing out on what is always a magical experience for them. Breaking the good news to them all yesterday was just incredible. Next week’s shows will be even more special now. The excitement is off the chart.”
Pantomime chairperson Tina Garry commented, “We were crushed to have to prematurely to end the run! We are over the moon to get the opportunity to reschedule and can’t believe our luck that there is full availability of cast and crew. We just can’t wait to get back at it!“
LPS would like to thank Patricia, Niall, Richie and the whole team at An Grianan for the sterling work in getting us back up there!
