Gardai investigating a claim that human remains have been buried in the back garden of a Letterkenny house were told the exact date on which the remains were allegedly placed there.
Forensic officers and detectives yesterday moved into the house at Leck Cottages near the Oldtown.
The Garda team are expected to return to the site today.
Officers began removing items in the back garden of the house before a mini-digger was moved in to begin an intensive search of the site.
Gardai have stressed that the current residents of the council house has NOTHING to do with the search.
The householders were left shocked when told of the developments yesterday morning.
Such is the specific information left by an anonymous tip-off that Gardai are treating the allegations very seriously.
Among that information is believed to be the specific date and year when the remains were allegedly placed there.
However, their search may take a number of days if anything is found.
One of the reasons for this is that Donegal County Council developed the back garden area sof the houses in recent years laying concrete as part of the project.
It is understood any human remains which may be on site are of a historical nature.
Locals in the area have been shocked following the arrival of a Garda team into the area.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed “An Garda Síochána is carrying out a search in Letterkenny, Co Donegal. For operational reasons, An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.”
