A long-awaited inquiry into the Omagh bombing has begun today.
The bombing by the Real IRA terrorist group in 1998 killed 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins, and injured more than 200 others.
Two boys from Buncrana – Sean McLaughlin and Oran Doherty – were among those killed in the deadly blast. Another young boy, James Barker, who was from England and who lived in Buncrana, also lost his life in the atrocity.
This long-awaited inquest will aim to establish whether more could have been done to prevent the attack, or limit the loss of life.
It will hear the personal stories of those who were killed and injured, statements from surviors, and also testimony from members of the emergency services who attended the scene of the bombing.
Evidential hearings regarding then bombing will then begin in the Summer.
