An articulated truck driver has been arrested in Donegal after being caught driving under the influence of drugs.
The case is one of nine drink and drug driving detections by gardaí in the past week.
A total of six drivers were arrested across the county on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.
One of those drivers was already disqualified from driving.
Three other drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend, gardaí are fearful that the road safety message is not being taken seriously by everyone and that needs to change.
“We have to work together to prevent serious injury collisions and tragedies on the roads,” a spokesperson said.
“Slow down, wear your seat belt, don’t use your mobile phone while driving and never ever drink and drive.
“Our priority is to keep people safe and we urge everyone to make responsible decisions this weekend and always in relation to road safety.
“We hope you all have an enjoyable and a safe Bank Holiday weekend on and off the roads.”
