Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) officers are conducting testing following an incident in the Crana River last week.
The incident was reported in Buncrana last Wednesday, January 22nd after a storage pond at a construction site near the Crana River had breached, causing water containing sediment to flow into the river.
IFI officers responded quickly and took samples at the site and downstream of the incident on Wednesday and Thursday. Those samples are being analysed this week.
It’s been confirmed that no fish kill occurred in relation to the incident.
“IFI will continue to monitor the site,” a spokesperson said.
“IFI – the State agency responsible for the protection and conservation of freshwater fish and habitats – continues to urge the public to report instances of water pollution, fish kills, habitat destruction, or illegal fishing to our confidential 24/7 number, 0818 34 74 24.
