The Government has announced that local authorities nationwide will be setting up Emergency Response Hubs in the coming days for those worst affected by power outages.
Following a meeting of the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group (NECG) this evening, RTE News reports that it was agreed that local authorities set up such hubs as the ESB has warned of widespread outages continuing well into next week.
The ESB have estimated that up to 100,000 homes may not have power until next Friday at the earliest.
Currently, there are 33,000 homes without electricity in Donegal, down by over 53,000 on the highest mark of outages noted on Friday.
According to the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group, these hubs will offer “basic needs such as water, hot food, phone charging, broadband access, shower and clothes washing facilities.”
However, it is not yet known if Donegal County Council will be setting up any such hubs, with the NECG telling RTÉ News that individual local authorities will “gauge the level of response required in their areas.”
