A warning has been issued for those sailing off the North West and West of Ireland after Storm Eowyn damaged the Coast Guard’s radio transmitter.
The Irish Coast Guard’s VHF Channel 16 system, which covers Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal, was knocked offline due to the record-setting winds.
Anyone travelling on the water has been advised that the Coast Guard’s EPIRB & PLB distress signalling beacon service does remain fully operational however.
If you or someone you see is in difficulty in the water, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
