Donegal faced the full brunt of Storm Éowyn with almost 90,000 ESB customers hit across the county.
Many are still without power as ESB crews scramble to restore supply.
An ESB spokesperson said that at 2.30pm today 87,000 customers in Donegal were without power.
They also confirmed that almost 90% of all customers in Donegal were without supply.
The worrying news is that some parts of Donegal may face a wait of a number of days to get back on the grid.
“From our experience of previous significant weather events and due to the severity of Storm Éowyn, we expect that power restoration will take a significant number of days and will take more than a week in the worst impacted areas.”
More than 715,000 customers across the country were hot by outages.
Speaking on RTÉ’s News At One, Brian Tapley of ESB said that Storm Éowyn caused unprecedented country-wide damage across the electricity network.
He also said that he expects it will take more than a week to fully restore power to all impacted subscribers.
