Woman charged with assault causing harm to another woman in Castlefin

January 23, 2025

A woman charged over an alleged assault in Castlefin during which another woman was harmed has been granted bail.

Lorna Bates was brought before Letterkenny District Court today.

A 45-year-old, of Ashbourne Manor, Chanterhill, Enniskillen, Bates was charged that on January 22, 2025 she did commit an assault causing harm to another woman at Main Street, Castlefin.

The offence is contrary to section 3 (1) and 3 (2) of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Bates was also charged with refusing to provide a specimen of her breath to gardai at Letterkenny Garda Station and with refusing to permit a designated nurse to take a sample from her, also at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Mr Sean McGee BL, for solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien, represented Bates in court.

Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that there was no objection to bail, but gardai were seeking conditions.

Judge Ciaran Liddy granted bail on condition that the defendant have no contact, either directly or indirectly, with any witnesses or alleged victim in the case. Bail was granted in Bates’s own bond of €500, with €90 lodged to court.

The matter was adjourned to a sitting of the court in February for directions from the DPP.
