Donegal County Council has announced plans to close key infrastructure in Donegal due to Storm Éowyn.
The Harry Blaney Bridge over Mulroy Bay will close from midnight – 5pm Friday 24th January due to high winds.
In Donegal Town, the pier car park will be closed from midnight tonight until 7pm on Friday due to potential flooding. High tide is expected at 1:11am and 1:34pm.
With a Status Red Wind Warning in place for Donegal from 7am to 2pm tomorrow, the public is urged to exercise extreme caution as Storm Éowyn has the potential to be “one of the worst storms every recorded in Ireland”.
The council is asking all businesses across the county to remove all sandwich boards and free-standing signage from public areas today in the interest of public safety.
Homeowners are advised to take immediate action to secure trampolines, garden furniture, and other loose outdoor items ahead of the coming storm.
Donegal County Council have pre-deployed sandbags in a number of high risk areas and further sandbags are ready to be deployed if required. Roads Service, Fire Service and Civil Defence crews are at a heightened state of readiness in the event of local responses being required during this storm event, however will only be deployed during the period of the red warning in instances with an immediate threat to life.
Donegal County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team are keeping the approaching weather pattern under review and will continue to monitor all local conditions as Storm Éowyn progresses.
