Two men have been arrested in Derry over Monday morning’s brutal assault which left a young east Donegal man fighting for his life.
Charles Dooher, aged 26 (pictured above) received a severe beating when a gang of five hooded men, armed with iron bars, broke into his Lifford home in broad daylight.
Charles and his father were both subjected to beatings at the house at Coneyburrow Road, on the main Ballybofey road, at around 10.30am.
Detectives from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch assisting colleagues in An Garda Síochána have this morning confirmed they have arrested two men in the Derry area.
The men are in police custody at this time.
Young Charles’ injuries were so severe that he was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital for emergency surgery on a serious head injury.
His father, who is also named Charles and in his 60s, suffered less severe injuries and is being treated at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Mrs Annmarie Dooher took to social media on Monday night to plead with family and friends to send prayers for her son’s recovery as she began a bedside vigil at his hospital bed.
Mrs Dooher added that her son did not deserve what happened to him.
A full Garda investigation has been launched into the brutal attack.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “Any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from Coneyburrow Road, Lifford, between 10am and 11am (Monday), are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
