An oven that went missing after it fell from the boot of a moving car in Letterkenny last month has been returned to its rightful owner.
The incident occurred at around midday on Monday, December 9, in the Carnamuggagh Upper area. A man was transporting an oven in his car and he didn’t realise that the boot door was open and the item fell out onto the road. A short time later another man came along in a van and he lifted the oven before driving away.
Initially, Gardaí issued an appeal believing a theft had taken place. A short time later, however, a man came forward to say was keeping the oven safe and had been searching for its rightful owner.
“We are happy to say that, following the radio appeals last week, the man in question immediately contacted the Garda station,” Garda Sergeant Eunan Walsh said.
“He had removed the oven from the road and had kept it in safe storage. He had been making enquiries locally in an attempt to return it to the rightful owner. The oven has now been returned to the owner and they are most grateful to the man in question for his assistance.”
