A Letterkenny priest has met with Pope Francis at the Vatican this week.
Fr. Shane Gallagher, the Chaplain of Letterkenny University Hospital, was one of four Irish priests who made the journey to Rome, for the blessing of four pilgrim Sacred Heart statues.
He was accompanied by Fr. John Mockler from Limerick, Fr. Shane Sullivan of the Apostolic Society of the Most Holy Trinity, and Dom Basil Mary McCabe of Silverstream Priory.
The statues will travel around Ireland throughout 2025 as a part of the 350th anniversary of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was first made by St Margaret Mary Alacoque.
Those journeys will conclude on Sunday the 22nd of June t the Knock Shrine where Archbishop Eamon Martin will renew the consecration of Ireland to the Sacred Heart for the first time in 150 years.
