A man is to stand trial over the alleged assault of a woman in Dunfanaghy.

Donnelly appeared at Falcarragh District Court in connection with the incident at the town’s Market Square on September 10th, 2023.

Kevin Donnelly, aged 40, is charged with assault causing harm to Angela Hopkins.

He is also charged that on the same date and location he did use or engage in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace might have been occasioned.

Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had recommended trial by indictment at the next siting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Eiteain Cunningham gave the accused man, with an address at Glenside, Monagh, Co Tyrone, the alibi warning.

The accused man’s solicitor, Mr Rory O’Brien, requested legal aid for his client saying he was a suitable candidate and also one counsel.

The case was adjourned until February 4th.
