Donegal Gardai have nabbed TEN drivers after launching a crackdown on drivers using their mobile phones behind the wheel.
The blitz was launched by members of the Buncrana and Letterkenny Roads Policing Units today.
Gardai launched the blitz out on the roads today targeting drivers who were using/holding their mobile phone while driving.
They detected a number of road traffic offences while on their travels.
Among those stopped today by the Roads Policing Units were ten drivers (6 in Buncrana and 4 in Letterkenny) who were detected using their phone while driving.
All the drivers have been issued with Fixed Charge Penalty Notices.
This means the drivers face a €120 fine as well as three penalty points on their license.
A local Garda spokesperson pleaded with drivers to keep their mobile phones away from arm’s length.
The spokesperson said “Please keep your eyes and your mind on the road at all times when driving.
“Put your phone and other distractions away. It only takes a split second and a brief lapse of concentration for a tragedy to happen.”
