January 14, 2025

A man caught drug-driving has been disqualified from driving for one year.

Christopher Mitchell was arrested by Gardai at around 2am on November 22, 2023.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that Mitchell, a 41-year-old with an address at Finnside Close, Lifford, was stopped by Gardai at Crievesmith Park, Letterkenny.

Mitchell was driving a Peugeot Partner van at the time. Gardai suspected that he was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time.

He was arrested and conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station, where a blood sample confirmed the presence of cocaine in his system.

The readings were “well above” the limit, Sergeant Collins said.

The court heard that Mitchell has a previous conviction which is under appeal.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted Mitchell and fined him €200, allowing six months to pay. Mitchell was also put off the road for a year. The disqualification period will begin from March 31.
