Robert Emmets has confirmed former Aodh Ruadh and Donegal star, John Duffy, as their new senior team manager.
The Castlefinn club has been struggling in Division 3 of the All County League for a number of years and the appointment will be seen as a major boost.
However, they have a number of promising underage players, reached the Junior B final in 2023, when they lost in a replay to St Mary’s, Convoy, and landed a rare win in the Junior A Championship last season.
Duffy, who played 49 times for Donegal between 1993 and 1999, was the assistant manager at his native Aodh Ruadh, Ballyshannon, in 2007. Seven years later, he was a member of Jim McGuinness’ backroom team when Donegal reached the All Ireland final in 2014.
Duffy, who lives in Killygordon, has two sons who are talented underage players with the Red Hughs club.
“We are excited to announce that John Duffy, a former Donegal county player and selector for Jim McGuinness in 2014, has been ratified as the new manager of Robert Emmets,” the Castlefinn club posted on social media this evening.
“John brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, and we are confident that he will lead our team to new heights. We look forward to a progressive season ahead under John’s leadership.”
The club also took the opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to Liam Sweeney for his dedicated service over the past two years.
“His leadership and commitment have greatly contributed to our progress in recent seasons,” they concluded.
