Locals have been outraged after extensive damage has been caused to the football pitch at the Illies Community Centre.
Vandals rammed down the main gates of the facility before driving their quad bikes on the pitch, which the Community Centre said caused “…significant destruction to the facilities that we’ve worked so hard to build and maintain as a community.”
The matter has now been passed on to Gardaí, who are currently investigating the incident and examining the CCTV footage the Centre has provided.
According to the Community Centre, the footage clearly shows who the perpetrators are.
“Thanks to the CCTV cameras installed at the entrance, around the building, and surrounding the pitches, we have clear footage of the individuals involved, including a headshot of one of the people driving a quad,” they posterd on social media.
“This footage has been handed over to An Garda Síochána, who are now actively investigating the matter. Please contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 93 20540 with any information.”
“We ask for your support and vigilance as we work to repair the damage and ensure the safety and integrity of our community facilities. To those responsible, know that your actions have not gone unnoticed, and there are consequences for this senseless behaviour.”
“Let’s continue to stand together as a community to protect what we’ve built. Thank you for your ongoing support.”
