John Joe’s of Kilcar sets the scene for impressive trad showcase

A new series of TG4 trad show ‘Geantraí’ will be making its way to Kilcar.

John Joe’s pub will provide a cosy setting for episode five of the programme, which takes viewers on a nationwide journey from Donegal to Cork, showcasing the wealth of musical talent that thrives in the country’s most intimate and hidden venues.

Australian musician Steve Cooney and Inishowen’s Dermot Byrne are among the well-known artists performing in episode five.

Viewers will also enjoy hearing from Iarfhlaith Ó Domhnaill, Natalie Ni Chasaide, Peter Carr, Sinead Haughey, Connie & Shauna Drost, Jim Byrne, Stephen Gallagher, Stephen Gallagher jnr and Derek Willamson, to name but a few!

This is the 19th season of Geantraí.

Presenter Pauline Scanlon said: “Geantraí has always been about the living tradition of Irish music. This series continues to celebrate that, bringing the music and its creators into the spotlight.

“We’ve focused on capturing not just the music, but the environments where these sessions happen—places where the heart of Irish culture beats strongest.”

Episode one of Geantraí, beginning in Limerick, airs on Sunday from 19th January on TG4 at 10.30pm and on TG4.ie
