Motorists urged to take care on untreated Arranmore Island roads

Main pic: The driver of this jeep had a lucky escape when it slid downhill in icy conditions.

A resident on Arranmore has urged motorists to drive with caution as roads on the island are  untreated and ‘in an awful way.’

A number of cars have been abandoned there this morning along the roadsides due to the icy conditions.

“Could you let people know the roads in Arranmore are in an awful way,” one of our readers said.

“This morning now, we have the road towards Chapel Strand blocked completely as a jeep is unable to make it to the top. This will remain closed until this jeep can be moved later today.”

Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident.

According to the resident, Donegal County Council does not grit the island’s roads.  However, the local Co-op leaves out grit for local people to spread.
