Motorists and pedestrians have once again been issued with a severe warning this morning following severe ice and snow across Donegal overnight.

A number of school bus companies including McGettigans in Letterkenny and Michael Friel coaches have decided to cancel their services today.

They say that road conditions in and around housing estates are simply treacherous and cannot be reached.

Many other routes are also very dangerous including the main Lifford to Letterkenny Road as well as the Back of Errigal Road.

Gardai have advised motorists to take extra care when traveling even if roads so seem passable.

There are numerous reports of black ice with several vehicles already left roads in a number of towns and villages across the county.

Parents of children in pre-schools, primary and secondary schools are being advised to check the social media pages of their schools to clarify if schools are open.

Donegal County Council has deployed its team of gritters to treat roads across the county from 6am his morning.

A severe cold weather warning has been issued for Met Eireann until at least Thursday for across the country.
