Met Éireann has warned of “significant” accumulations of snowfall in Donegal as the cold snap shows no signs of halting.
Outbreaks of snow and sleet are expected this morning, with conditions gradually clearing moving into the afternoon – as Donegal remains under a status yellow snow and ice warning until 5pm this Sunday evening.
However, conditions on the county’s roads are expected to be difficult with snow building up, and temperatures ranging between 0 and 4 degrees celsius today.
Temperatures will dip again tonight to between -4 and 0 degrees, with scattered snowfall and widespread icy conditions.
A status yellow low temperature and ice warning is in place nationwide until at least Thursday, with many counties in the south of the country under status orange warnings this weekend.
While Donegal has avoided the worst of the disruptions so far, thousands are currently without power across counties in Munster and Leinster this morning according to the ESB.
