Met Éireann is warning that ‘significant accumulations of snow’ are likely in some counties over the weekend.
Donegal County Council says it has been notified by the national meteorological service that a moderate weather advisory will be in place from midnight on Saturday until midnight on Monday.
Met Éireann says there will be sleet and snow in places this weekend, with some disruption possible.
“A spell of rain will spread northwards over Ireland during the course of Saturday, turning to sleet and snow in some areas,” they said.
“Rain, sleet and snow will continue for a time on Sunday before clearing eastwards into the Irish Sea. Significant accumulations of snow are likely in some counties.”
Potential impacts include hazardous travelling conditions as well as travel and service disruption.
Earlier, Met Éireann also issued a low-temperature warning for Donegal.
The alert comes into effect from 6pm this evening and will be active until 11am tomorrow.
It will be ‘very cold’ with widespread frost and ice being forecast as temperatures are expected to fall as low as -5 degrees, or below, in many areas.
