The northern lights could be visible from Donegal this New Year’s Eve if the conditions are right.
Forecasters are anticipating a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) resulting in a minor-moderate geomagnetic storm arriving at Earth tonight.
This, according to the UK Met Office, may produce some aurora borealis display visible aurora across Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England.
There is also a “slight chance” the strength of the storm could reach G3/strong levels.
However, views of the show, if any, could be hampered by the weather tonight, with cloudy conditions and rain expected for the turning of the year.
