National: Man in court over fatal hit-and-run which killed couple

A man has been brought before the courts charged in connection with a fatal road collision in Dublin which killed a husband and wife on St Stephen’s Day.

John Halpin (45), with an address in Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, appeared at Dublin District Court this morning charged with four offences including two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Thirty-nine-year-old Georgina Hogg Moore and her 40-year-old husband Anthony Hogg were struck by a vehicle near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre last Thursday evening.

Ms Hogg Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband was seriously injured and later died at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown

It is understood the couple had two children.

John Halpin is also charged with two counts of hit-and-run including failing to offer assistance.

Solicitor Damien Coffey told the court that no application for bail would be made at this time.
