The Annual Christmas Day Dinner for those Living Alone in Donegal proved another huge success yesterday.
This was the 19th annual event aimed at bringing a hot dinner and some heartfelt warmth to those in Donegal unfortunate enough to be alone at Christmas.
A total of 112 volunteers across the county helped distribute hundreds of dinners to folk across the county living alone.
There was also a hugely successful ‘sit-down’ Christmas dinner in the Conwal Parish Hall in Letterkenny.
Organiser Kathy O’Connor thanked all those who helped in any way to making it a better Christmas for so many people.
She said “Hard to believe that we are 19 years in with the Annual Christmas Day dinner. A great day of people coming together in a community spirit.
“I’d like to thank the Chamber of Commerce who have been supporting us from day one, the Church of Ireland for the use of their hall, Blood Bikes North West for the use of their van, Dom’s restaurant in Donegal Town for providing dinners, soup and desserts, Chef Simon for cooking, Gary for providing dinners, John B and John W for soup, Grace for desserts, Haha Ather for the vegetarian pasta, Frieda for securing soup cartons and Raymond for assisting the collection of dinners and help with set up. I’d like to thank Pat for his amazing help in organising drivers and Karen for all the support she brings. My two right arm colleagues.
“I’d like to thank TCS, Zeus and The Health and Well Being programme for their generous donations. A big thank you to each and every volunteer who showed up proving meals on a plate, delivering dinners and serving in the hall. We had the presence of Garda Brenda and colleague from Ballybofey. I’d like Catriona for her trojan work with shoe boxes and last but not least Johnny Haughy for the music. Much love to all. K.”
