A manhunt is underway for the driver of a van that struck and killed a young woman in County Limerick.

The incident took place at Rathkeale yesterday afternoon at approximately 12:15pm.

The Irish Independent reports that the woman was standing behind a set of gates at a property, when a silver Ford Transit van rammed into the gates causing her serious injury.

She later died in hospital as a result of her injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the shocking incident to come forward.

Anyone with camera or dash-cam footage of the incident have been asked to make that footage available to investigating Gardaí.
